National Reflections Contest: What’s Your Story?

reflections-2016-2017-what-is-your-story-banner

The National PTA Reflections art contest celebrates diversity in the arts, and in the students in our school and community. For those of you that might not be familiar with the program, every year Awtrey Middle School students submit entries that are judged by outside professionals in the Arts Community. (Last year judging was done by the Zuckerman Museum at KSU.) All participants are recognized in a special ceremony with medals and certificates; family members are also invited to attend. First and Second Place submissions from each category AND each grade level advance to Council competition, and can advance to District, State and National competition!

If you are reading this and thinking, “This is a lot of work” or “I will never win,” please consider this – submitting is as simple as: cranking up a tune for your dance mob that fits this year’s theme – “What is Your Story?” You could create and print with a 3D printer, sing a song with a friend, take a selfie, create a clay animation, Legos or with your own drawings. The possibilities are endless!

Awtrey Middle School encourages student participation in this wonderful nationally-recognized program, and we would love to assist your child (and you) on this art-astic journey to sharing your child’s story!

Forms are due to the front office by November 4th by 9am!

Parent Lunch & Learn – Online Safety

One of the growing concerns across the country is, how do we keep our children safe online? With the easy access to technology, and predators, inappropriate contact, and cyber bullying parents can’t keep up with all the new apps and websites their children have at their fingertips.

That is why the PTSA and the Collaborative Learning Center will be hosting a parent Lunch & Learn entitled “What Parents Should Know to Keep Your Children Safe Online!”

Friday, November 14, 2014
Lunch will begin at 11:30
The session will be from 12:00 – 1:00

Pizza will be available for $1 a slice and sodas for $1 a can. Or you may bring your lunch. Please make it a point to bring your friends and be here for this informative session.

You do not have to be an Awtrey PTSA member or parent to attend. This is open to everyone.

We ask everyone to please register so we know how much pizza and handouts to have available.

Online registration is available.
