As new technologies continue to change the world in which we live, they also provide many new and positive educational benefits for classroom instruction. Therefore, we have decided to implement Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) at Awtrey Middle School. In this initiative, students are encouraged to bring their own technology devices to school to assist their learning experiences. While we currently are not allowing students to bring their own devices to school, we will be discussing these BYOD plans during our planned Open Houses, sharing with our students the expectations about this opportunity, and implementing BYOD after our Open House week.

Please visit our school web site for updated information. Thank you for your support of student achievement!

Awtrey’s Late Work Policy

This late work policy has been developed to balance successfully monitoring student achievement and empowering students to take responsibility for their learning.

Students who don’t submit required graded work by the due date will lose appropriate conduct card points. Work may be submitted by the next class period on the following school day with no academic penalty. Any work not submitted with this extension will be recorded as a “0” in the grade book.

Any homework assignment submitted after this extension will receive feedback only but not receive credit. There will be no other options to replace this “0” homework grade. Homework assignments will count no more than 5% of the final grade.

Any multi-day/long term assignment not submitted by the next class class period may earn credit only when completed during an assigned detention. Students who choose not to serve this detention and complete the assigned long-term task will earn a “0” for this assignment.

Any task defined by a teacher as an assessment and not completed by the extension will earn a “0”. This recorded grade can be replaced or exempted after the final assessment has been taken and graded. This final assessment for students who need grade recovery may contain alternative assessment items to assist with evaluating mastery of the content standards. These alternative assessment items will require extended responses to more fully evaluate student achievement.

Respective teachers can be contacted to assist with answering questions about the use of this policy.

Collaborative Learning Center Summer Hours

CLC Summer Hours

This summer our Collaborative Learning (formerly Media) Center will be open from 10 AM until Noon on Wednesday. Our media specialist, Mrs. Foster, has created some activities for every week (with the exception of July 2, when we will be closed). Please go to the Learning Center website for more information! We are looking for volunteers to assist on these Wednesday’s, so if you would like to help out, please sign up!

In addition to being open for summer check-out, Mrs. Foster has been working on the team that provides the summer reading program for Cobb County School District and Cobb County Public Library. This year, the CCPL is giving away an iPad and eReaders for a students as grand prizes. All you need to do is read, submit the online survey for each book (up to 10) and you will have a chance to win a prize. On top of that, every student that enters the drawing by submitting either an online or paper survey, Mr. Crawford and Mrs. Foster will be giving out prizes. We will give a grand prize to the student that reads the most books this summer. We have not decided what the prize will be, but it will be something nice! We will also draw names to give out additional prizes! So keep reading!
