We are up and running with the MakerSpace Lab and our 3D printer. Thank you to the wonderful donors and the Awtrey Foundation for supporting this project! We are happy to announce that Cobb County has approved us to use Inventor Professional 2015 as our design software. Here is a link that you can choose to download at home and begin designing over break. The software is free for education. Just click “secondary” then student and list Awtrey Middle School as your school. http://www.autodesk.com/education/free-software/inventor-professional#
Starting in January, we will begin monthly design contests. The students will be able to create a 3D design that goes with our monthly contest. They will submit their designs and then the MakerSpace Lab Board of Directors will decide on the top three designs. Then all students will be given a chance to vote on their favorite design. The winner each month will have their product printed for them to have and then the product will be sold in the school store the following month in order to purchase supplies and more items for the MakerSpace Lab. January’s design challenge: design a piece of jewelry (charm, earrings, ring, necklace, bracelet, watchband) that is unique, creative, has structural support (not too thin). If you are looking for ideas, visit www.thingiverse.com. You are not allowed to submit a design that is not your own, so don’t submit one you find at Thingiverse or another website!
We have also had a donation of some K’Nex and balancing rods for the MakerSpace. Thank you for your donation. Our wish list is available on the Awtrey Foundation page if you would like to purchase other items for our student to use as they imagine, design and build their creations.
